New Dignity – New Perspectives

BURUNDI
Today, through the stories of two individuals, we'd like to tell you about the valuable work being done by ACP Burundi. And we urge you to pray for our partners.

An elderly couple in Burundi suddenly found themselves with nothing. Abandoned by their own children, they also lost their home in 2024: The land on which they lived was reallocated as part of a government initiative—yet they received no compensation. When their house was demolished, they were left penniless and homeless. In this desperate situation, the woman sought help from ACP Burundi. With a small loan of $50, she dared to make a fresh start: she began selling onions, tomatoes, and other staple foods on a simple table.

Today, the couple lives in rented accommodation together with a grandchild. The income from this small business is enough to cover their daily needs: paying the monthly rent and buying groceries. Step by step, the woman has already been able to take out several loans and repay them reliably. What began in despair has turned into a new perspective. With great perseverance and mutual support, the couple has found a way to provide for themselves—and to regain hope.

Paths Out of Worthlessness

The daily Bible lessons with our partners have fundamentally changed Evelyn's life. Today, she is able to share God's Word with other women, encouraging and teaching them. And she can now also support her family financially. For a long time, her reality looked very different. Her husband repeatedly made her feel worthless. But step by step, her life changed. Evelyn has not only gained new spiritual strength but also actively contributes to her family's livelihood.

This transformation has sparked a vision in her: she hopes that more churches and congregations will support women in this way. Too often, she says, donations are collected, but there is a lack of concrete ways for people to become self-reliant. The local congregation in Muhweza, which belongs to ACP Burundi, is taking a different approach. A team of six people combines practical help with spiritual guidance. Through small projects like pig farming and cultivating a field, they create income opportunities while also spreading hope.

We pray ...
for protection, provision, and lasting stability for the elderly couple,
that God's peace may restore Evelyn's marriage,
for many good ideas for our partners on how they can help people.
