Sports Open Hearts

CENTRAL ASIA
The youth group of a partner church recently organized a soccer tournament. Most of the participants were not Christians. What they experienced left a lasting impression.

As early as the morning, the field filled with young people from various cities. The games were played with full commitment, but what really mattered was how they treated one another. Respect, fairness, and encouragement characterized every encounter. Not a single swear word was uttered during the entire tournament—an unusual and impressive experience for many spectators.

During the breaks, conversations arose that quickly went beyond sports. Some young people had been hurt by parents or friends; others lacked goals and prospects. As the day went on, hearts opened up, and conversations turned into prayers. Some expressed a desire to visit the church on Sunday.

Sometimes a soccer tournament is all it takes to reach people who otherwise seem unreachable.
